Centre panel recommends continuing ban on Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj on OTT

New Delhi: A high-level committee constituted by the Central Government has recommended that the ban on the film Satluj, based on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, should continue on OTT platforms. According to government sources, the committee concluded that the film contains material that allegedly promotes content against India’s sovereignty and integrity.

Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who investigated the alleged cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab between 1984 and 1994. Khalra was later abducted and killed in police custody in 1995. Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh portrays Khalra in the film.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had ordered the film’s removal from the OTT platform ZEE5 just two days after its release, citing security concerns. Following the takedown, an inter-departmental committee was constituted under the Information Technology Rules, 2021 to review the matter.

The committee has now recommended that the restriction on streaming the film should remain in place, citing concerns related to national sovereignty and integrity.
