New Delhi: DNA tests of samples collected from the blast site near the Red Fort have confirmed that Dr Umar Nabi was driving the car that exploded on Monday evening, police sources said on Wednesday.
According to sources, DNA samples of Umar Nabi’s mother were collected on Tuesday and sent for testing. The samples matched with human remains recovered from the blast site, confirming his presence in the vehicle.
Police said Umar Nabi was a key member of the ‘white collar’ terror module that was busted earlier this week. He was a resident of Koil village in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.
The explosion occurred just hours after police uncovered terror modules linked to banned outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Eight people, including three doctors, were arrested in the operation.
Officials said that during the raids, around 3,000 kg of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and sulphur were seized from various locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The investigation into the Red Fort blast is ongoing.
