16 students fall unconscious after suspected gas leak at school in UP’s Hardoi

New Delhi: At least 16 students fell unconscious following a suspected gas leak at a private school in Sandila town in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi, officials said on Thursday. The affected children were rushed to two private hospitals, while one student was referred to King George’s Medical University in Lucknow for specialised treatment.

District Magistrate Anunay Jha said an inquiry has been ordered and strict action will be taken once the source of the leak is identified. Officials said a strong odour spread across the school premises, triggering panic among students who rushed out of their classrooms. Teachers quickly evacuated the building and informed parents and authorities.

DM Jha and Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena visited the school and met the children receiving treatment. “Around 16 students were affected in the incident but all are currently stable. The source of the gas leak is yet to be ascertained. Necessary legal action will follow after the investigation,” Jha said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of the incident and directed officials to ensure proper medical care and conduct a thorough investigation, officials added.
