Punjab fed up with corruption, crime: Amit Shah at Moga rally

Chandigarh: Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday attended the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Badlav Rally’ in Moga. Shah, who arrived wearing a saffron turban, received a warm welcome from leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Punjab.

The rally drew attention due to the absence of former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh. However, his wife Preneet Kaur and daughter Jai Inder Kaur were present on the stage.

Addressing the gathering, union minister of state Ravneet Singh Bittu said that people of Punjab now want a “double-engine government” in the state. He alleged that the policies of the Aam Aadmi Party government have pushed Punjab towards economic distress.

Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma also raised concerns over the law and order situation and the drug menace in the state. He said the youth of Punjab, once known for excelling in agriculture and sports, are now falling victim to drug abuse.

Sharma urged Shah to intervene and help address the deteriorating situation in the state. BJP leaders claimed that only their party can make Punjab drug-free and restore peace and development.

The rally is being seen as a show of strength by the BJP in Punjab ahead of the next assembly elections.
