New Delhi: BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday targeted the Aam Aadmi Party over the alleged suicide of Punjab Warehousing Corporation officer Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, accusing its leaders of intimidation and corruption.
Chugh said the incident in Amritsar is “deeply disturbing” and raises serious questions about the functioning of the ruling party in Punjab. He alleged that AAP leaders are pressuring officials and extorting money from various sections of society.
“The way an officer was allegedly called to a minister’s residence, threatened, assaulted and filmed in a bribery-related matter, leading to his suicide, reflects the extent of corruption within the system,” Chugh said.
He further claimed that corruption has spread across officials, businessmen and common citizens under the current government.
The remarks come amid an escalating political row over the case, which has already led to the resignation of former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier ordered a probe into the incident and assigned the investigation to the chief secretary. An FIR has also been registered against Bhullar and two others in connection with the case.
The issue continues to trigger political confrontation in the state, with opposition parties demanding stricter action and accountability.
