Chandigarh: The State Election Commission has initiated the process for upcoming civic body elections in Punjab, issuing directions for revision of voter lists.
Elections will be held for nine municipal corporations and 104 municipal councils and nagar panchayats whose terms have ended. Administrators have already been appointed in these bodies.
The Commission has provided existing electoral rolls received from the Election Commission of India to all district deputy commissioners, along with guidelines for updating voter lists.
Officials said the revision will be carried out as per the latest delimitation finalised by the Local Government Department.
The municipal corporations slated for polls include Abohar, Bathinda, Barnala, Mohali, Hoshiarpur, Batala, Pathankot, Kapurthala and Moga. Elections for corporations in Patiala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Phagwara have already been conducted earlier.
The civic polls for these bodies are likely to be held in May.
