Chandigarh: Punjab Kings bounced back to winning ways after six consecutive defeats, defeating Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets in an important Indian Premier League clash played on Saturday.
Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer starred with a magnificent unbeaten 101 off just 51 balls, registering the first century of his IPL career. He stitched a match-winning 140-run partnership for the third wicket with Prabhsimran Singh, who scored 69 runs off 39 deliveries.
Chasing a target of 197 runs, Punjab comfortably reached 200 for 3, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
With this victory, Punjab moved to fourth place in the points table with 15 points from 14 league matches. However, their qualification for the playoffs now depends on the outcome of Sunday’s match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. Punjab will qualify for the playoffs if Rajasthan lose the match.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans have already secured their places in the knockout stage.
