Punjab Police warns against fake ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ membership phishing links

Chandigarh: Punjab Police has issued a public advisory warning people against fraudulent phishing links being circulated in the name of the viral satirical social media group “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP), which has recently gained massive popularity across the country.

According to the advisory, cyber criminals are now taking advantage of the growing online buzz around the digital organisation by sending fake membership links to people through mobile phones and social media platforms.

Following reports of suspicious and virus-infected links being circulated among residents in Ludhiana and other parts of Punjab, Ludhiana Police has launched an alert campaign urging the public not to fall prey to such scams.

Police officials stated that clicking on these malicious links can result in mobile phones being hacked instantly, allowing cyber fraudsters to gain access to sensitive personal information, including banking and financial applications.

Authorities warned that victims could lose control of their financial accounts and suffer major monetary losses if they unknowingly install malware or share confidential details through such fake membership portals.

Punjab Police has advised citizens to avoid clicking on unknown links, verify sources before sharing personal information and immediately report suspicious cyber activity to the cyber crime helpline or nearest police station.
