VB nabs senior constable for taking Rs 3,000 bribe

Amritsar: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its relentless campaign against corruption in the state on Tuesday nabbed Nishan Singh, senior constable, posted at police post Green Avenue, Amritsar city for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000.

  Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned police personnel has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Rajinder Singh, a resident of New Abadi, Amritsar.

  He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official has been demanding Rs 3,000 as a bribe in lieu of releasing his vehicle on ‘sapurdari’ in a theft case.

    The spokesperson further added that the VB Amritsar range after a preliminary investigation of this complaint, laid a trap and the said police official was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB team has recovered bribe money from his possession on the spot. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into the case was under progress.
