Vigilance Bureau nabs ASI for taking bribe of Rs.35,000

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Dilbar Khan (No 1479/Sangrur), posted in police station city-2, Malerkotla for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the above said police official has been arrested on the complainant of Mohamad Yameen, resident of Mohalla Milkh, Malerkotla city.

Giving details, he added that the complainant has approached the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of VB Ludhiana range and alleged that the above said police official has demanded Rs 45,000 as a bribe to help in executing a compromise regarding a police complaint case between his relatives besides recording his statement in the high court for quashing another police case already registered in the above said police station. The complainant further informed that the said ASI had already taken Rs 10,000 as a first instalment of bribe.

The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team from EOW Ludhiana range laid a trap and the accused police official has been arrested on the spot while taking a bribe of Rs 35,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB EOW, police station, Ludhiana range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
