Indian-origin Sunak to take over as British PM

Rishi Sunak, who has been elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party in the historic race for leadership of Britain, will take over as the country’s first Indian-origin Prime Minister by meeting Emperor Charles III today.

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss will chair her last cabinet meeting at 10 Downing Street (prime minister’s residence–office) Tuesday morning before heading to Buckingham Palace to formally submit her resignation to 73-year-old Charles.

Sunak, 42, will then arrive at the palace to meet the emperor, who will formally appoint him as the country’s new prime minister.
