UWW suspends Wrestling Federation of India for not holding elections on time

New Delhi: The United World Wrestling Federation (UWW), the world governing body of wrestling, has suspended the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) for not holding elections on time. This will not allow Indian wrestlers to compete under the Indian flag in the upcoming World Championships.
Indian wrestlers will have to compete as “neutral athletes” at the Olympic-qualifying World Championships starting September 16 as the Bhupinder Singh Bajwa-led ad-hoc panel has scaled up the 45-day deadline set for holding elections.
