23-year-old Punjabi youth shot dead in Langley; two Punjabis held in separate weapons case

Langley: A 23-year-old Punjabi youth was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Langley, British Columbia, while police near Winnipeg separately arrested two Punjabi men in connection with an alleged illegal weapons and ammunition case.

Langley police said they received a report of a shooting at a plaza near 200 Street and 60 Avenue on Tuesday night. Officers arriving at the scene found a young man suffering from gunshot wounds inside a luxury vehicle.

Emergency responders attempted to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Police have not yet officially released the victim’s identity. However, sources have identified him as 23-year-old Jeevan Johal.

In the separate Winnipeg-area case, police identified the two arrested men as Ravinder Chahal, 48, and Kulwinder Chahal, 38. Both are residents of West St Paul and are reportedly known in the local community.

Police said a large quantity of ammunition, illegal firearms and cash was recovered during the operation. Further details about the charges and circumstances of the arrests were not immediately available.

Investigations into both cases are underway.
