Ludhiana: A major accident was narrowly avoided in Ludhiana’s Moti Nagar area after a truck carrying chemicals caught fire on Thursday. The flames rose several feet into the air, triggering panic among residents.
According to local residents, the truck was passing through the area when it came into contact with overhead high-voltage electricity wires. Sparks from the wires reportedly ignited the chemicals loaded onto the truck, causing the fire to spread rapidly.
The blaze also damaged electricity meters outside nearby houses. Residents claimed that cracks appeared in some houses following the incident. People inside the affected homes were evacuated safely through rear exits.
Four fire tenders brought fire under control
After receiving the information, four fire tenders reached the spot and began firefighting operations. Fire officials brought the blaze under control after nearly an hour of efforts.
Fire Sub-Officer Rajan Singh said the team reached the location soon after receiving the information.
No casualties have been reported in the incident. Officials are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
