FIR filed in Jhota murder case on father’s complaint; conspiracy alleged

Mansa: Mansa City-2 police registered an FIR on Wednesday in connection with the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, based on a complaint filed by his father, former Army personnel Bhim Singh.

According to the FIR, chemist shop owner Ashwani Kumar, two of his associates and another person who was allegedly speaking on the phone at the time are accused of conspiring to kill Jhota. The allegations are part of the police case and have not been established in court.

In his complaint, Bhim Singh described his son as an anti-drug activist who had allegedly drawn the displeasure of some politicians and government officials because of his campaign.

Bhim Singh said he was at the district courts on Tuesday when he heard about the shooting and was informed that his son had been shot. He alleged that he saw Jhota covered in blood and heading towards a shoe shop, while Ashwani Kumar was carrying a pistol and accompanied by other people.

The complainant further alleged that Kumar fired at Jhota in front of him. He also claimed that Kulwinder Singh Sukhi and some passers-by were injured during the shooting.

Bhim Singh named Bhupinderpal Singh Ruby, who was reportedly accompanying Jhota, as a witness to the incident.

Police are investigating the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the killing.
