Punjab Police constable in anti-drone unit arrested with 15kg heroin near border

Amritsar: The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested a Punjab Police constable from an anti-drone unit with 15kg of heroin, valued at around ₹100 crore in the international market, according to officials.

The constable, identified as Karanbir Singh, was allegedly involved in drug trafficking despite being part of a unit tasked with preventing narcotics smuggling through drones along the India-Pakistan border.

According to information shared by the BSF, Singh is the son of a village headman from Bhuse village under Sarai Amanat Khan police station. He had previously been posted as a clerk at the Sur Singh police post under Bhikhiwind police station before being transferred to the anti-drone unit around six weeks ago.

Security personnel detained Singh and handed him over to the police. Investigators are questioning him to determine where he was allegedly taking the consignment and who was supposed to receive it.

A team from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is also questioning the accused as part of the investigation.

Further details about the suspected trafficking network and the circumstances of the seizure are awaited.
