Tarn Taran: Questions have been raised over police accessibility after a motorcycle theft incident in Algaon Kothi, where the complainant alleged that the nearby police post was locked when he arrived seeking assistance.
According to information, Amanpreet Singh, son of Sukhdev Singh, had arrived at a private hospital in Algaon Kothi around 8pm on Thursday to pick up his wife, who works there. He alleged that some persons stole his motorcycle from near the hospital and fled.
After discovering the theft, Amanpreet Singh, accompanied by some associates, went to the Algaon Kothi police post to report the incident and seek police assistance. He alleged that the door of the police post was locked when they arrived and that, despite repeated efforts, they had difficulty contacting police personnel.
Amanpreet said people generally approach the police first after incidents such as theft, robbery or other crimes. He and other residents urged senior police officials to investigate why the post was locked at the time and why the personnel reportedly could not be contacted.
Police assure action if negligence found
Inspector Manjit Singh, SHO of Valtoha police station, said police remain available round the clock for public safety.
He said that if police personnel were present on duty at the post but failed to open the door despite people knocking while seeking assistance, the matter would be investigated and responsibility fixed.
The SHO added that if negligence is established, departmental action would be taken against the personnel concerned.
