Mansa: Balkaur Singh, father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has claimed that the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections could be violent, alleging that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) may field around 15 gangsters as candidates.
Addressing a workers’ meeting in Mansa, Balkaur Singh accused the AAP government of using muscle power in politics. He referred to the recent alleged assault on Mohanjit Singh, who had protested against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the issue of drug abuse in Sheron village.
Balkaur Singh alleged that Mohanjit was subjected to torture, including being given electric shocks and having salt applied to his injuries. These allegations have not been independently established.
Repeating his warning about the 2027 polls, Balkaur Singh said the election could see several people with criminal backgrounds entering the electoral fray. He urged voters to decide whether they wanted to send people accused of criminal activities to the Assembly or elect honest representatives who would raise their concerns.
Balkaur Singh seeks chance to serve Mansa
Balkaur Singh also criticised the BJP over the continued incarceration of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in Sabarmati jail.
He appealed to the Congress to give him an opportunity to work for the party for five years. Calling himself a loyal Congress worker, he said he would campaign across all 117 Assembly constituencies during the election.
Balkaur Singh said his son had several dreams for Mansa after bringing global recognition to the district. He said he wanted to enter electoral politics to work towards improving healthcare and education in Mansa and helping fulfil those aspirations.
