Ambala: Members of the Sikh community staged a protest outside Panjokhra Sahib police station in Ambala on Sunday, opposing the arrests made in connection with the alleged assault on anti-Khalistan activist Gursimran Mand at the Panjokhra Sahib gurdwara.
Police had begun making arrests following Saturday’s incident, prompting Sikh organisations to demand the release of the detained youths.
The protesters gave the police one-and-a-half hours to release the youths, warning that the agitation would be intensified if their demand was not met. Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni also warned the Haryana government of a larger agitation if the youths were not released.
Representatives of the Sikh community, along with members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union led by Gurnam Singh Chaduni and the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Kisan Union, joined the protest.
‘Why was no case registered over alleged attempt to run them over?’
During a meeting with police officials, Chaduni questioned why a case had allegedly not been registered against those accused of attempting to drive a vehicle towards the Sikh youths.
According to Chaduni, police registered a case against the Sikh youths on the complaint of Gursimran Mand, including charges under Section 307, while no similar action was taken against those allegedly involved in the vehicle incident.
He argued that the youths were acting in self-defence after an alleged intrusion and confrontation at the gurdwara.
Chaduni further alleged that Mand had political links, claiming that this was the reason action had not been taken against him. These allegations have not been independently established.
He warned that the situation could escalate if the arrested youths were not released, saying the administration should resolve the matter through dialogue.
The protest comes amid heightened tensions following the confrontation at Panjokhra Sahib Gurdwara, with Sikh organisations demanding action against all parties involved rather than arrests being limited to the Sikh youths.
