Ludhiana: A Congress organisational meeting in Ludhiana witnessed tense scenes on Thursday as supporters of senior party leaders raised rival slogans, exposing factionalism within the Punjab Congress.
The situation escalated when supporters of former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu raised loud slogans in his favour, despite Ashu not being present at the meeting. Slogans supporting Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring were also raised, creating a charged atmosphere inside the venue.
Earlier in the meeting, supporters of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also shouted slogans, including, “Saamne aao Channi ji, tusi BJP di kyon manni ji,” targeting the party’s internal differences.
As the sloganeering continued, Raja Warring interrupted the meeting and reportedly described those raising slogans as RSS workers, asking them to leave the hall. His remarks further intensified the tension among party workers.
Although the District Congress Committee had displayed posters outside the venue projecting unity among local leaders, the atmosphere inside the meeting reflected continuing divisions within the party.
The posters prominently featured photographs of several local Congress leaders, including Bharat Bhushan Ashu, his close associate Ishwarjot Cheema, and other senior leaders. The show of unity outside contrasted sharply with the factional sloganeering witnessed during the meeting.
