Election of Delhi Mayor on Feb 22, Lt Governor gives permission

New Delhi: The election of the mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be held on February 22 and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has given permission to convene a meeting of the House of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today recommended to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena to hold the mayoral election on February 22.
The chief minister’s recommendation came after the Supreme Court ordered that the first meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) be convened within 24 hours to hold elections to the mayor and the standing committee members. Kejriwal had accused the Lt Governor of trying to “forcibly” stop the Delhi government from putting forth its opinion before the Supreme Court on a matter related to the civic polls.
