Referendum for Khalistan held in Canada despite Modi apprising Trudeau of Indian concern
New Delhi: Sikhs participated in large numbers in the Khalistani referendum in Canada, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his concerns about anti-India activities in his country to his counterpart Justin Trudeau on the same day.
Voting in support of Khalistan, a separate country for Sikhs in India, was held on Sunday at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia province, where its former president Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead in June.
The global news channel reported that the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which conducted the referendum, said more than 100,000 people attended the event. It is clear from the voting that the issue of Khalistan is very emotional for the Sikhs.
The voting was scheduled to be held at the school in Surrey but was cancelled after the concerned residents brought to the notice of the school management pictures of the weapons on the poster.
