Australian NRI died in Khanna after consuming excessive alcohol at Jago party

Chandigarh: An NRI has died after falling into a drain in Khanna. It is reported that he was attending a relative’s wedding. The day before, during the wedding ceremony, he stated to have consumed excessive alcohol and reportedly fell into the drain.

Police have registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances and initiated an investigation.

Varinder Singh Gill, 37 years old, was a resident of Bulara village in Ludhiana. He resided in Australia with his wife and 9-year-old son.

He returned to the village after approximately nine and a half years. On Sunday night, he accompanied a friend to a wedding in Kulahad village of Malaud, at the friend’s relative’s place.

Varinder’s friends stated that he thoroughly enjoyed himself and consumed alcohol at the wake party. After the party, he departed from the relative’s house around 1:15 am.

At approximately 2 am, a passerby noticed someone lying in the drain while exiting the area. They alerted the wedding attendees, who then discovered it was Varinder. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
