Farmers in Punjab closed toll over hiked rates

Patiala: Farmers in Punjab on Thursday forced the closure of toll plazas between Pantara in Patiala district and Khanauri in Sangrur district. Members of the Kirti Kisan Union reached the toll in the morning and started taking out the vehicles without paying tax. This toll was stopped after the toll rates were increased and people living in nearby villages were not exempted.
According to Daljinder Singh, district secretary of Kirti Kisan Union, the Jathebandi had received information that toll rates have been increased at the toll plaza on the Patara-Khanauri road. Toll is also being collected from people living in nearby villages and no exemption is being given to them.
