Sangrur court stays conviction of Punjab minister Aman Arora in 2008 assault case
Chandigarh: In a major relief, the Sangrur District Court on Thursday stayed the conviction of Punjab cabinet minister Aman Arora in a 2008 assault case. The issuance of a stay order is crucial for the minister to retain his membership as an MLA.
Arora, the cabinet minister had filed the appeal. The court, after considering arguments from both sides until around 7.45 pm yesterday, has reserved the verdict for January 25.
Earlier, the Sunam court had sentenced Aman Arora and eight others to two years in jail and fined them Rs 5,000 each in a 15-year-old domestic dispute case. In 2008, Rajinder Deepa, Arora’s brother-in-law, had filed a complaint alleging that Aman Arora and eight others had forcibly entered his house and assaulted him.
