Amritsar: A Class 11 student, identified as Komal, from Saragarhi Memorial School of Eminence in Amritsar allegedly died by suicide at her home, triggering anger among her family members and classmates.
The incident took place on Tuesday. Following her death, family members and local residents staged a protest outside the school’s main gate and demanded action against the school staff.
Komal’s sister Lakshmi levelled serious allegations against two female teachers. According to her, the teachers were allegedly mentally harassing some of Komal’s friends and making objectionable remarks about the character of female students.
The family also alleged that Komal had been removed from NCC activities and was asked to stay away from the school for a month after being threatened with expulsion.
Komal’s friend Meenakshi alleged that the teachers’ insulting remarks had affected her deeply and claimed that her dream of becoming a Punjab Police officer had been shattered.
The protesting family members alleged that the school administration and police were attempting to suppress their concerns. They warned that they would continue their protest outside the school until cases were registered and the teachers and principal were arrested. They also threatened to block the main road if their demands were not addressed.
