New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has increased fares for mail and express trains, with the hike coming into effect from July 1. The fare for non-AC classes will go up by one paisa per kilometre, while fares for all AC classes will increase by two paise per kilometre.
Ministry officials had earlier hinted at the fare revision on June 24. However, there will be no change in the fares of suburban trains and monthly season tickets, keeping in mind the interests of daily commuters.
For normal second-class travel, fares up to 500 km will remain unchanged, while ticket prices for distances beyond 500 km will increase by half a paisa per kilometre.
General sleeper class and first-class passengers will also pay half a paisa more per kilometre for travel from July 1.
