New Delhi: The Election Commission has said it received enumeration forms from 7.24 crore voters — 91.69 per cent of the electorate — following the conclusion of the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The month-long exercise aimed at updating the voter list was conducted across the state.
Earlier, the total number of voters stood at 7.89 crore. As per the revised data, over 65 lakh names have been deleted from the rolls.
The commission said 36 lakh voters had either permanently migrated from their previous addresses or no longer have a valid address. Additionally, the names of around seven lakh voters were found to be registered in multiple locations.
Officials added that the final status of these duplicate and migrated entries will be confirmed after scrutiny of the submitted forms, which is expected to be completed by August 1.
