Income Tax and Sports Bills Passed amid Opposition Uproar in Parliament

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Income Tax Bill (No. 2) 2025 and the Taxation Laws Amendment Bill, 2025 without any discussion, despite an uproar over allegations of voter verification and vote theft.

The opposition raised strong protests, but the bills were cleared as the House proceeded with its agenda.

Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, the Goa Assembly Scheduled Tribe Reservation Bill and three bills related to Manipur were introduced amid continuing opposition disruptions.

Rajya Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the handling of the proceedings, saying, “It is being said that the House is not in order for discussion, yet bills are being passed. This is a betrayal of democracy. Democracy must be protected. The Chair and the Leader of the House should explain this. What kind of democracy is this?”

The National Sports Governance Bill 2025 was also passed in the Lok Sabha after it reconvened at 2 pm, along with the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the legislation is a significant part of the country’s history since independence.

Earlier, around 300 opposition MPs marched from Parliament to the Election Commission’s office protesting voter verification processes.

Leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav were detained during the protest but were released after two hours.
