Bhiwani: The body of Manisha, a teacher from Bhiwani district, was recovered on August 13, triggering widespread protests. Locals blocked the Delhi-Pilani National Highway in Bhiwani, alleging that the police were attempting to portray her murder as a suicide.
“We don’t believe the suicide theory of the police. If there was a suicide note, why was it hidden for so long?” protesters questioned. Students also demonstrated in several districts, including Panipat, Jind, Charkhi Dadri, Kaithal and Fatehabad, demanding justice for Manisha.
In the afternoon, a meeting of the committee formed to seek justice was held. Farmer leader Ravi Azad said that the lab report would be collected from Sunaria Lab in Rohtak in the presence of Manisha’s family. He added that both the family and the committee were willing to cooperate with the police in the investigation.
Later in the evening, Bhiwani SP Sumit Kumar said the postmortem revealed traces of pesticide in Manisha’s body. He further claimed that the handwriting matched with the suicide note recovered earlier in the day. However, on the instructions of senior officials, a high-level medical expert committee at PGI Rohtak has been formed to examine the medical reports.
Meanwhile, Manisha’s family members continued their dharna at Dhigawan Mandi on Monday night, asserting that they do not accept the police’s version.
