New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled India’s squads for the upcoming T20 assignments and the Asian Games, with teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi earning his first senior national team call-up.
At just 15 years and 71 days of age, Suryavanshi has become the youngest player ever selected for India’s senior international cricket team. The young batter has been included in the squads for the T20 series against Ireland and England scheduled for June and July, as well as for the Asian Games later this year.
The squad announcement also brought significant changes to the team’s leadership structure. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed captain of India’s T20 side, while Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain.
Former T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has been left out of the squad. The selection decision comes amid concerns over his recent form, ending his tenure as captain of the shortest format.
The inclusion of Suryavanshi marks a major milestone in Indian cricket and highlights the selectors’ growing willingness to invest in emerging young talent at the international level.
Cricket observers have described the teenager’s elevation to the senior side as one of the most notable selections in recent years, with expectations high ahead of his potential international debut.
