Raja Warring’s aide Shubham Sharma appointed Punjab Youth Congress chief

Chandigarh: The Congress has stepped up preparations for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, with the party initiating changes in its organisational structure. As part of the reshuffle, the Indian Youth Congress has appointed Shubham Sharma as the new president of the Punjab Youth Congress.

The appointment was announced by Indian Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib after consultations with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Along with Sharma’s appointment, Gagandeep Singh has been named Senior Vice-President of the Punjab Youth Congress, while Karanveer Singh Dhillon has been appointed Vice-President.

Shubham Sharma had emerged as the top candidate in the Punjab Youth Congress organisational elections, securing 1,60,154 votes out of a total 4,68,614 votes cast.

Gagandeep Singh finished second with 1,56,271 votes, while Karanveer Singh Dhillon secured 94,181 votes.

The appointments are being seen as part of the Congress’ strategy to strengthen its youth leadership and organisational network in Punjab ahead of the next Assembly elections. He is considered to be very close to Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
