Floods submerge parts of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur

Kartarpur: A large portion of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan has been submerged in floods following the release of water into the Ravi river. The revered shrine, a centre of faith for Sikh devotees worldwide, is currently surrounded by floodwaters.

According to officials, water has accumulated up to two to three feet in the premises. Four steps of the main stairway of the Darbar Sahib are underwater, and the water level continues to rise. The mazaar outside the shrine has been completely submerged, while the tomb on the ground floor is also under water.

However, the holy form and servitors of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji remain safe as they have been shifted to the upper floor. Pakistani authorities have begun preparations to deploy helicopters and vehicles to evacuate pilgrims and gurdwara staff as the situation worsens.

Floods have also impacted nearby villages, disrupting daily life. Traffic on the Kartarpur Sahib–Narowal road has come to a halt due to waterlogging.

The Kartarpur Corridor, which connects Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab with Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan, has remained closed since April 22, 2025. The closure came after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, following which the Indian government suspended cross-border movement.
