CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Roadways/PRTC Contract Employees Union has informed the General Manager of the PRTC that its members will no longer provide buses for political rallies, limiting their services strictly to daily route duties.
The move comes amid the government’s continued failure to address the employees’ long-pending demands, despite repeated assurances.
In a letter to PRTC management, the union said that contractual staff feel unsafe after a recent incident in Tarn Taran, where a Punjab Roadways bus ferrying Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s rally was allegedly attacked by a group of youths.
Citing serious security concerns, the union declared that until their grievances are resolved, no buses will be deployed for any political events.
