Punjab Government promoting sports culture across the state
Jalandhar News: Punjab’s Freedom Fighter, Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat today inaugurated the state-level Chess and Kurash competitions under the 69th Punjab School Games at Sain Dass School, Jalandhar. The competitions being held in Jalandhar include Chess (Under-14 boys and girls) and Kurash (Under-14, 17, 19 boys) categories.
Encouraging the players on the occasion, the Cabinet Minister urged them to play with true sportsmanship spirit. He said that while Kurash, a self-defence sport, requires physical strength, Chess demands mental agility and development. He informed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has been making major efforts to promote sports culture and motivate youth to actively participate in games. He added that to provide a favorable sports environment for players, the state government is constructing 3,000 sports grounds across Punjab.
Mr. Bhagat further motivated students to excel in sports and bring glory to Punjab and the nation, mentioning that the government is organizing the campaign “Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan” across the state to encourage youth and keep them away from drugs. He said that players who bring laurels at national and international levels are being honored with cash awards and government jobs.
Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment to transforming the state into a “Rangla Punjab” through revolutionary changes in sports and education, the Minister said that all efforts are being made to ensure the holistic development of youth through sports. He expressed pride that the state-level Chess and Kurash competitions of the 69th Punjab School Games are being hosted in Jalandhar, where players from 23 districts are participating. He said that the participants are being provided with complete facilities for accommodation and food during their stay in the district.
On this occasion, District Education Officer (S) and National Awardee Dr. Gurinderjeet Kaur, Deputy DEO (S) and State Awardee Rajiv Joshi, District Sports Coordinator Amandeep Kondal, Principals Harmesh Lal Ghera, Sukhdev Lal Babbar, Surinder Kumar, and Baljeet Singh Dhillon presented a memento to the Chief Guest.
