Tarn Taran: An 18-year-old woman, Gurpreet Kaur, was allegedly murdered by poisoning in Tarn Taran district, Punjab. Reports suggest that the accused, Jarmanjit Singh, had a love affair with the girl, which was opposed by her family due to caste differences.
According to the police, Gurpreet’s mother filed a complaint at Sadar Tarn Taran police station. A murder case has been registered against the young man and his mother. Jarmanjit Singh is currently absconding.
The victim’s mother said that Jarmanjit Singh, a resident of Khojkipur village, had repeatedly discussed marriage with Gurpreet Kaur. However, upon learning that he belonged to a Scheduled Caste, she opposed the relationship. Following this, Gurpreet distanced herself from him.
The police said the accused allegedly could not accept the rejection. In a fit of rage, he conspired with his mother, entered Gurpreet’s house on November 5, and poisoned her. Further investigation is underway.
