Ahmedabad awarded hosting rights for 2030 Commonwealth Games

New Delhi: Ahmedabad has officially been awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games by the event’s governing body at a meeting of its Executive Board in Glasgow on Wednesday.

The announcement confirms that the main events and competitions of the Games will take place in Ahmedabad.

India will be hosting the Commonwealth Games after 15 years.

The last edition held in the country was in New Delhi in 2010, where India won more than 100 medals, including 38 gold medals.

Officials said that the Commonwealth evaluation team has visited Gujarat twice in recent months to review preparations. After securing the 2030 event, India’s push to host the Olympic Games in 2036 is also expected to gain further momentum.
