Four killed, including Indian national, in Georgia shooting linked to family dispute

Washington: At least four people, including an Indian national, were killed in a shooting incident in the US state of Georgia, in what authorities said was linked to a family dispute.

The incident took place in Lawrenceville on Friday morning, local media reported. Three children were present inside the house at the time of the shooting.

The Consulate General of India in Atlanta confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the victims’ families. In a post on X, the consulate said the alleged shooter had been arrested and that all possible assistance was being extended to the affected family.

According to a report by Fox 5 Atlanta, the suspect has been identified as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar. Gwinnett County police said the victims included Kumar’s wife Meemu Dogra (43), Gaurav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chandra (37) and Harish Chandra (38). Multiple charges have been filed against the suspect, police said.

Investigators said the three children hid inside a closet when the shooting began. One of the children managed to call emergency services, following which police reached the scene within minutes.

Police said the children were unharmed and are currently in the care of a family member. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
