Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday made a sharp remark on the justice system, a day after Dera Beas chief Gurinder Singh Dhillon visited Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia at Nabha jail.
Quoting a couplet in Punjabi, Mann said, “Kal ban jaan, bhavein aaj ban jaan, adaalatan da othhe Rabb raakha, jithhe mulaqaati hi judge ban jaan” (Whether decisions are taken tomorrow or today, God save the courts where visitors themselves become judges).
Though the chief minister did not name anyone, his statement is being widely seen in political circles as a reaction to the high-profile jail visit by the Dera Beas head and the public comments made thereafter. Gurinder Singh Dhillon had met Majithia inside Nabha jail on Monday and later told reporters that all allegations against Majithia were false, while declining to comment further on the legal cases.
The Dera Beas chief’s visit, his second to Majithia in jail, had drawn attention across Punjab, with a large number of followers gathering outside the prison. Dhillon had said he met Majithia as he is a relative.
