Chandigarh: The son of slain journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, Anshul Chhatrapati, has said he will approach the Supreme Court of India after the Punjab and Haryana High Court acquitted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the journalist’s murder case.
Reacting to the verdict, Anshul Chhatrapati said the family has not yet received a copy of the detailed judgment and the grounds for the acquittal will become clear only after reviewing the order.
He expressed hope that the Central Bureau of Investigation will also challenge the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court.
“We respect the High Court’s decision, but we will not lose hope. We have fought this legal battle for more than two decades and will continue to pursue justice in the Supreme Court,” he said.
Advocate Lekh Raj Dhot, who has closely followed the case, said that the evidence presented during the trial had gone against the Dera chief and that the case would be pursued further in the Supreme Court after studying the judgment.
The development follows the High Court’s recent decision to set aside the earlier conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the 2002 murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.
