Blast damages Shambhu–Ambala rail track; one killed, services restored

Chandigarh: A late-night explosion on the Shambhu–Ambala railway line caused major damage to the track near Shambhu, disrupting rail movement temporarily before services were restored on Tuesday morning.

Track damaged, movement halted

The blast occurred around 10 pm, damaging a section of the railway line and breaking the stone slab beneath it. Rail traffic was immediately suspended, and restoration work was carried out overnight by railway authorities.

One killed, body parts recovered

Authorities recovered parts of a human torso from the site. The deceased has been identified as Jagrup Singh from Tarn Taran district. Officials said the body was severely mutilated in the explosion, and identification was reportedly made through a mobile phone found intact at the scene.

Forensic probe, suspects traced

A forensic team from Patiala reached the spot past midnight, collected samples and sent them for analysis. Police sources said suspects linked to the blast have been traced, with further details expected in a briefing by SSP Varun Sharma.

The victim’s brother has also been taken into custody, though his role remains unclear.

Case registered under key laws

Railway Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Railways Act and the Explosives Act. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and motive behind the explosion.
