Jalandhar News (June 08, 2026): Under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign launched by the Punjab Government on March 1, 2025, a special public outreach initiative was launched in Sub-Division Nakodar to strengthen public participation and spread awareness for the eradication of drugs.
On this occasion, specially designed e-rickshaws were flagged off under the leadership of Ajay Bhir, Coordinator of Jalandhar Rural District, and Sukhwinder Gadwal, Coordinator of the Yudh Nashian Virudh Committee, Nakodar Constituency. Onkar Singh Brar, DSP, Sub-Division Nakodar, was also present during the event.
These e-rickshaws, provided by the Punjab Government, will travel across various villages and urban areas of Sub-Division Nakodar to educate people about the harmful effects of drug abuse and motivate them to join the campaign for building a drug-free society.
Special suggestion boxes have been installed in the e-rickshaws through which members of the public can confidentially share information regarding drug peddlers, illegal sale of narcotics, or drug abuse activities. In addition, awareness will be created regarding government helpline numbers, de-addiction centres, and treatment facilities available for individuals seeking freedom from substance abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, DSP Onkar Singh Brar stated that public cooperation is crucial for eliminating the drug menace. He said that valuable information had previously been received through helpline numbers and members of Ward Defence Committees (VDC/WDCs), on the basis of which the police had taken effective action.
He appealed to the public to come forward fearlessly and share information regarding drug traffickers, and to assist individuals suffering from addiction in accessing treatment and rehabilitation services through de-addiction centres.
He further stated that the Punjab Government and Punjab Police are fully committed to creating a drug-free Punjab and that, with the support of the people, this campaign will be made even more effective to free society from the scourge of drugs.
