Amritsar: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia did not receive immediate relief from the district court on Tuesday, as the hearing on his anticipatory bail application was deferred until June 11.

The case relates to allegations that Majithia and several others unlawfully entered Majitha police station on May 31 and attempted to secure the release of a detained individual. A case was subsequently registered against the Akali leader and other named persons.

Majithia had approached the district court seeking protection from arrest and anticipatory bail. The matter came up for hearing on Tuesday, but the court adjourned further proceedings until Wednesday.

During the hearing, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case informed the court that advocate Bikramjit Bath, who had also been named in the matter, was present at the scene in his capacity as a legal adviser and had no direct role in the alleged incident.

Following the SIT’s submission, Bath received relief in the case, while proceedings concerning Majithia’s anticipatory bail application remain pending.

The case has drawn political attention in Punjab, with opposition leaders questioning the circumstances surrounding the registration of the FIR and the subsequent investigation.

The court is expected to take up the matter again on June 11, when further arguments from both sides are likely to be heard.
