Amritsar: A case of alleged sacrilege involving Sri Sukhmani Sahib has been reported from the Verka area of Amritsar, where police have arrested a man accused of tearing pages of a Gutka Sahib during an argument with his mother.
According to the police complaint, Amarjit Kaur, who works as a domestic helper, alleged that her son Hardeep Singh alias Sonu has been addicted to drugs for a long time and frequently demands money from her to buy narcotics.
She stated that on the evening of June 29, at around 4 pm, she was reciting Sri Sukhmani Sahib outside her house when Hardeep allegedly arrived and demanded money. After she refused, he allegedly snatched the Gutka Sahib from her hands, tore its pages and fled the spot.
The woman later informed her family members before approaching the police.
Taking immediate action, Verka Police registered a case against the accused under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested him.
Police said the incident is being investigated from all angles, considering its sensitive religious nature. The incident has also triggered anger among local residents, who have demanded strict legal action against the accused.
