Agra: A shocking murder case has come to light from Agra, where a woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband, burying his body beneath the bathroom floor and misleading both police and family members for nearly 45 days.
According to police, the case surfaced after the woman’s brother-in-law became suspicious of her behaviour. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to the crime, following which police broke the bathroom floor and recovered skeletal remains believed to be those of her husband.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that her husband frequently consumed alcohol and physically assaulted her. She claimed she mixed more than 18 sleeping pills into kheer and served it to him, leading to his death.
Police said the woman then called her brother-in-law from Rajasthan but allegedly prevented him from entering the house. She reportedly took her two daughters and mother-in-law about 100 metres away from the house and sent them with him before dragging the body into the bathroom, digging a pit and burying it there.
After returning from Rajasthan several days later, she allegedly hired labourers to lay a new bathroom floor over the burial site. Throughout the investigation, she continued to maintain that her husband had left home after taking ₹5,000 following an argument and even accompanied police while they examined CCTV footage, allegedly pretending to be distressed.
The deceased, Surendra Kumar Sharma (44), originally from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, lived in Agra’s Renuka Dham Colony, Dahtora with his wife Ruby, their two daughters and his mother.
Surendra’s elder brother, Anil Sharma, said Ruby called him on 18 May, asking him to take away their mother and the two children, claiming a police matter had arisen at the house. When he reached Agra, she instructed him not to come to the house and later told him that Surendra had left after an argument, taking ₹5,000 with him and saying he would contact the family within two or three days.
Police are continuing their investigation, and further legal proceedings are underway based on forensic findings and other evidence.
