Amritsar: After drawing national attention through protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Pune and several other cities, the youth-led ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) is set to expand its campaign to Punjab.

The organisation’s founder and activist Abhijeet Dipke has announced that the group’s next major protest will be held in Amritsar on June 13. The movement, largely driven by young people and members of Generation Z, is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the education system, including the NEET examination paper leak controversy and concerns related to CBSE examination results.

In a video message shared on social media platforms X and Instagram, Dipke said the protest would take place at 4 pm on June 13 near Golden Gate in Amritsar. He appealed to students, youth and volunteers across Punjab to participate in large numbers and raise their voices for accountability and transparency in the education sector.

What began as an online movement fuelled by internet forums and memes has evolved into a nationwide campaign, mobilising students and young people around issues related to competitive examinations and educational governance.

The movement has sparked wider discussions on examination reforms, transparency and accountability in public institutions, with organisers claiming that students have repeatedly suffered due to administrative failures and irregularities.

The planned protest comes at a time when Punjab’s political landscape is gradually shifting towards preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections. With major political parties intensifying their outreach efforts across the state, observers believe that growing youth dissatisfaction over education-related issues could emerge as an important factor in future political discourse.

Organisers have maintained that the protest will be peaceful and focused on seeking reforms and accountability in the country’s education system.
