Jalandhar: The Electronic Media Association has taken a strong stand against the registration of a police case against the 15-year-old son of senior journalist Sudhir Puri without proper investigation.
The association announced that journalists will gherao the Police Commissioner’s office on Monday in protest against the police action.
According to members of the association, Sudhir Puri, his family and his son were outside Punjab at the time the alleged attack reportedly took place.
The journalists’ body claimed that travel-related documents, recordings and other evidence are available to support their stand, but despite this, police allegedly registered the case without conducting any preliminary inquiry.
Calling it a major lapse on the part of the police, the Electronic Media Association demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
Office-bearers of the organisation warned that if the police administration fails to take prompt action, the protest movement would be intensified further.
