Chandigarh: Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer Anupreet Kaur Randhawa, currently serving as SDM of Gurdaspur, was taken into custody by Punjab Police on Friday morning in connection with an alleged land acquisition embezzlement case.
According to sources, the case is linked to alleged irregularities and misappropriation of funds in land acquired for the Jammu-Kashmir–Rajasthan highway project.
Police from Patti in Tarn Taran district reportedly detained the officer from her official residence on Jail Road around 7 am.
Officials said Randhawa has been facing allegations related to an alleged embezzlement of nearly ₹1.63 crore. The matter had already been under investigation before the latest police action.
Randhawa belongs to the 2012 batch of the Punjab Civil Services.
Sources further claimed that the SDM initially resisted the police action and opposed the proceedings for some time before being taken into custody from her government residence.
