PM Modi blames Opposition for women’s quota bill failure, apologises to women

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused opposition parties of blocking the women’s reservation bill in Parliament, saying their actions had “crushed the dreams of women.”

Addressing the nation a day after the bill’s defeat in the Lok Sabha, Modi said parties like Congress, DMK, TMC and the Samajwadi Party indulged in politics for their own benefit, hurting the cause of women’s empowerment.

He alleged that these parties prevented the implementation of 33% reservation for women in legislative assemblies, despite the government’s efforts.

“I apologise to all the women of the country,” Modi said, adding that those opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan Act have underestimated the power of women.

The Prime Minister asserted that the government remains committed to women’s empowerment and will continue efforts to ensure adequate representation for women in legislatures.
