Toronto: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Parambans Singh alias Bunti Romana was reportedly forced to return from Toronto Pearson International Airport after being subjected to extensive questioning by Canadian immigration authorities.
According to sources, Romana had arrived in Toronto on a flight from India and was stopped for secondary screening upon reaching the immigration counter. Officials allegedly questioned him on multiple issues and sought additional information beyond routine immigration checks.
Sources claimed that immigration authorities asked a series of questions, including matters related to police clearance and background verification. It is alleged that officials were not fully satisfied with some of the responses provided during the screening process.
Romana was reportedly presented with two options by authorities — undergo a prolonged and detailed investigation process that could last several hours or voluntarily return to India. Sources said he chose to return and was subsequently allowed to board a flight back.
A passenger who reportedly witnessed the incident claimed that immigration officials repeatedly referred to information displayed on their computer screens while questioning Romana. The witness alleged that authorities appeared to be acting on specific complaints or information available to them, though no official details have been released regarding the nature of any such complaints.
There has been no official statement from Canadian immigration authorities regarding the incident. Similarly, Romana has not publicly commented on the reports at the time of filing this story.
